A Friday Photo and Limitlessness

Today's Friday photo is from April 2013 and it's from another trip to Avebury. I've been to or through Avebury a lot over the years that I've been here. It's one of my favorite places to visit because you can enjoy just wandering around the fields around there.

This is a photo of the church there, St. James. I took this from across the road and through some trees as you can see. I was just getting ready to cross the street, but I thought that the church looked beautiful peeking out of the trees like that. I took the photo in black and white on purpose because I loved the contrast of the dark tree branches punctuating the sky. It looks as if there's no top to the photo. When I look at this photo, it makes me think of limitlessness. There's no lid on things so you can go as high as you care to go. I like that idea.

That's my photo for today. I'll be back next Friday with another one. If you've missed any you can see some of them here, here, here, and here.

Also, I'll be back a couple of times next week before my Friday post with more stuff to share. I hope that you'll visit me again.

Have a great weekend!

Phone

Hello :-)

Just a quick post today...

The photo above is from June 2014 in better times for my phone. Sadly yesterday, my phone decided to die! Ugh!

I'm not looking forward to spending money on a new one :-/

Oh well. It is what it is. All will be well!

Have a great Monday and a great week! :-)

A Friday Photo and Dreaming of Warmer Days

Hello :-)

Today's Friday photo is from July 2013 and as you can see it's a colorful butterfly hanging out on a sunny day. Since I posted a photo yesterday showing those optimistic daffodils trying to pop out, I decided to continue with that theme. Even though it's still cold here, especially too cold for my southern blood...Lol...and it's truly freezing back home and all along the east coast of the United States, I'm gonna think warm thoughts! ;-) I know we shouldn't rush time because time is precious, but it's still fun to dream of those warmer days ahead.

So here's to dreaming of warmer days, sunshine, and beautiful butterflies that decide to pay us a visit!

Happy Friday and have a great weekend! :-)

Daffodils Coming

I don't know if it's a bona fide sign of spring because it's still kinda early, but I'll take it! These are the daffodils in the backyard that have decided to pop up to see what's going on in the world. It's still rather cold here, but thankfully it's not too frosty today...it's just a little bit rainy.

I'm always excited when I see these daffodils pop up each year because it lets me know that spring is on the way even when I can't see it :-)

Visiting Bath on Saturday

I just wanted to drop in and say hello. Happy Monday! :-)

I hope that everyone had a great weekend. My weekend was great! My other half and I went to Bath on Saturday and it was fun as always. It was cold, but it was still a good day out.

One thing that I love about Bath is the beautiful architecture.

Here's a photo that I took of Bath Abbey as we walked around. This is a small section, but I love this angle.

Just beautiful...

Have a wonderful day!

A Friday Photo and a Moody View

Today's Friday photo is another one from the archives. I'm having fun looking back and remembering these times past. I hope that you enjoy having a look along with me :-)  This photo was taken in August 2012 in Bournemouth. It was a weird-looking day...it was sort of dark and light at the same time so my photo turned out like this...kind of eerie. I love a sunny day, but I also love a moment in the day when it looks like this. I love a bit of the unusual. This photo was taken in black and white so it probably came out a lot darker than it would have in color, but even as I looked at it with my own eyes in full color on that day, it was moody like this :-)

That's my photo for today. I hope that you have a great weekend wherever you are!

Until next time...

Food Sharing

Even though it's not Friday, my regular day for sharing photos, I have a photo to share :) If you've visited me before you know that from time to time I enjoy sharing food pics. I love food, but then I know that I'm not rare. Lol. Still I love documenting some particularly delicious food whenever it comes into my life just because I think that it's amazing.

Food of course feeds us and keeps us alive, but it's also special when we can share it with friends and family as we have great conversation. And hey, if the conversation is lacking sometimes, good food is always there to save the day ;-)

The photo above shows my food which is closest in the frame and across the table we have the food enjoyed by my other half. He had a fabulous cheeseburger, fries, and cole slaw. I had a spicy chicken burrito with guacamole, salsa, and sour cream served on the side. Yum!!!! This food was more than good...it was superb! :-)

So that's my food share...the first that I've shared in a while.

I hope you have a great day wherever you are!

Until next time...

Showing Up

I spent the weekend writing again and that's a good thing. I'm slowly but surely learning the power of "showing up" in order to get the story out. That's the biggest thing that I'm learning as I work on my book. The first step of many is just to show up to let the story unfold.

I've been wanting to write a book for as long as I can remember...even when I was a young girl, I always had that in my mind. I've made a few attempts over the years, but those attempts sort of stalled along the way. Fingers crossed that this one won't skid to a stop ;-) I think that it can all work out though because of a few things:
1) I'm kind of stubborn...Lol...so even if it takes me years, I don't usually give up. This won't take years though. It'll be finished quite soon.
2) I made it through finishing my degree a couple of years ago after years of putting it on hold, so I have the feeling of completion of a long goal to draw upon now that I didn't have before. Now I know how good it feels to finally achieve a huge goal.
3) If I could write those thousands and thousands of words for essays while I was doing my university work, at least I know now that I can write a lot of words. Lol. I know that a novel is a different animal than university essay writing, but hey, I'm word counting. Gotta hold onto the positive here ;-)
4) I'm not trying to sound like my book will be some masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but I feel that it's just time to get some stories out. They've lived in my head a long time. It'll be like mental spring cleaning :-)
5) Finally, I just want to do it now.
As random as some of these things sound, in my mind, in my life, they make perfect sense. Lol. But I think that that's the beauty of the whole thing though...we all are ready when we're ready. Maybe it's that I'm getting older and things have moved around in my head in the way that was needed. Who knows? The important thing is that finally on this go around I'm "showing up". We shall see what it all comes to in the end, but a great part of me is okay with things whatever the outcome because I know that I'll be okay no matter what :-)

Well, that's just what's on my mind as we start this new week and I continue on this journey of completing my book. I hope that you'll visit me again to see how I'm getting along.

Until next time...

A Friday Photo and Stone Circles

Today's Friday photo is another one from the archives. I took this picture in April 2013. As you can see, the trees hadn't started sprouting out with their new leaves yet, but they were on their way. I love the little stream there along the path. This is out near Avebury, in one of the many fields there. If you're ever in Wiltshire, England you should definitely visit Avebury and the surrounding area. It has its own stones like Stonehenge, but in Avebury they are more spread out. There's one section of the stones that to me looks like a landing strip of some kind. Hmm.

Here's another tidbit, Wiltshire has had its share of crop circles over the years, so....I'm just sayin' (cue the Twilight Zone music)  ;-)  Seriously though, it's a very interesting area in Wiltshire and I highly recommend it if you're ever visiting. It's a fantastic place. By the way, the location of this photo isn't where the stones are, but it's very close by.

I love being out in nature, so whenever I get the chance to walk around this area or in some of the beautiful forests, it always feels like home :-) I mean that figuratively and truthfully. I come from a lovely place back in Georgia, so when I'm out in nature I feel connected to the natural world all over our planet.

I hope that you enjoyed looking at my photo. Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend! :-)

Until next time...

Reading and Enjoying

In my previous post, I mentioned that I've been doing quite a lot of reading lately. Well, this is one of the books that I've been reading and it's a real treat! It's a collection of short stories by one of my favorite writers Zora Neale Hurston. I got this wonderful book as a Christmas gift and I've been dipping into it since then. I say dipping because since it's short stories, readers can get bite-size pieces of these literary gems as quickly or as slowly as they please. I prefer to dive into each story wholeheartedly, take it all in and then pause to let her brilliance sink into my mind. So I'm taking this experience slowly and enjoying it immensely.

Having the chance to read the work of such a truly gifted author like Ms. Hurston is such a great lesson in how to write well. I love the detail that she weaves into her stories. Even though she lived and passed away before I was born, the themes and customs found in many of her stories are still familiar to me as a southerner of today.

I'm going to hate when I come to the end of the book. Of course, the beauty of the whole situation is that I can revisit these stories whenever I wish :-)

I love reading!

Until next time...

Hello February, Reading, and the Superbowl

I had a great weekend! How was yours? :-)

The usual chores of cleaning and food shopping happened, but I also spent some time reading. I've loved books since I was a child, so the relationship is a long one. I've always been a reader. While I was attending university and finishing my degree a couple of year ago, I got away from reading for pure pleasure. I read A LOT of books as you can imagine during those years, but it was a different kind of reading for me. I mean, I enjoyed it, but I found that it all percolated differently in my brain when I was reading in pursuit of a grade. I don't know. Lol.

Anyway, now that I can read what I want when I want, I'm rediscovering my true love of reading. So this weekend I read a bit of this and a bit of that. I've always heard authors say that their best advice is to read and write on a regular basis in order to get in the right frame of mind. Therefore, I've been doing that since I've been working on my novel. I must admit that it's helping the words flow freer so that's good :-)

Also, on Sunday, I took a break from the reading to watch the Superbowl. It was on late here because of the time difference, but I watched as much as I could before I fell asleep. It was fun to be involved in a collective experience like that. I'm a newer football fan. I've watched sporadically throughout my life, but I've only really been watching as a fan for about three years. I'm still learning, but it's fun to watch.

I hope that you had a great weekend and that you have a great new week! Happy February!
