My Love For the Color Blue

Today I'm here for my love of the color blue! ;-)

As I've mentioned before here, I love the color blue and I always have. Granted, in my twenties I had a brief flirtation with pink and even had a bedroom that was embellished with all things pink. It was a phase I guess. But it was there for a while and then one day the pink fascination was just gone. No offense to pink or to anyone who loves it. It's still a lovely color, but I'm all in with blue now. Lol.

I don't remember when I started to like blue...I've always liked it, but it wasn't as obvious when I was younger. It's funny that even though I don't consciously choose blue things when I'm shopping, blue items always seem to find me :-)

Here are a few examples of my love for the color blue:

I love wearing blue. I don't wear it everyday, but it's definitely a color that's present in my wardrobe. These are just a couple of tops that I love to wear and also some of my blue jewelry.

I made this photo of  perfectly innocent white flowers blue one day just because...

Of course, I'm not alone in loving that blue sky up above us. Granted we don't get a chance to see the blueness of the sky here in England nearly enough, but when we do I'm a happy woman :-)

This is my blue bottle. It usually sits on the windowsill in the bedroom. I love having a bit of blue decor in my surroundings. As I think about it, I really haven't gone overboard with the blue around the house at all. There's just a sprinkling.

These are just a few examples of how the lovely color blue pops up here and there in my life. I'm not obsessed, but if you were to hang with me for a while you'd see it's the color that I gravitate to ;-)

What's your favorite color? I'd love to know.

Have a great day and a wonderful week!!!

A Friday Photo and Wordy Storage Boxes

Today's Friday photo isn't one of my old ones from the archives...no, it's a more recent one :-) Technically it's more than one photo as you can see, but we have a theme going here on Friday so I'll let it slide. Lol. If you've visited me here before, you know that I've been talking about my new storage box and I mentioned that I'm a bit of a storage nerd. We all have our quirks ;-) If you'd like to read those earlier, exciting posts, you can find them here and here. Exciting....Lol.

So today I'm finally getting around to sharing some photos of my new storage box. Never has a simple storage box had such a build-up, but hey, I'm easily amused and I love to share my random things here :-) As you can see it's got lots of writing all over it and that's what drew me to it. I love the message and I love the shape and size of the box. There's something old-fashioned about it that I like. I'm kinda retro sometimes. Also as I think back to the night when I bought it, the atmosphere of that night added to my love for this box. As I mentioned in my past post, we had the chance to have the store virtually all to ourselves that Friday night. It was like being on an adventure and then having a discovery. I didn't go into the store looking for it, but when I found it I knew that I had to have it. My lovely storage box was back in the furthest corner of the store surrounded by so many eclectic, whimsical items. Everything was so individual and that's what I loved :-)

I don't shop a lot, but when I do and I see something that really touches me, I'll buy it if it's reasonably priced. This box only cost me £5 (roughly $7 US). When I saw the words printed on the box they spoke to me, so I had to answer. It has a magnetic closure so everything can stay safe and sound inside. Now I've just got to fill it and that'll be fun to do!

Well, that's all for today. I hope that you'll come back next week to see what I'm up to next. I've still got to do my blue post, so that'll be coming next week. Also, on Friday I'll have another one of these Friday photo posts.

Have a great weekend! :-)

Storage Nerdiness and Visiting Characters

I'm so slow :) Sorry for my delay in getting back here to write. You know how time gets away from you? Well, that's what happened. I'm trying to do a little bit of spring reorganization. I won't call it spring cleaning yet, because truthfully I'm not all in yet. Lol!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I got a nice new storage box (a bit fancier than the one above) and that has inspired me to get a bit more organized. I need more boxes though. Lol. But I'll make due with what I have. I'll be back tomorrow with my post about my new storage box for my Friday photo post. So I hope you'll come back to take a look. I'm a storage nerd so forgive my excitement if you're not a storage nerd too :)

In other news, I've been working on my book. I'm taking it as a good sign that my characters walk through my dreams sometimes. It's interesting ;-) I guess they're showing themselves to me. I'm glad about that :)

Tomorrow is storage box reveal day so I hope you'll visit me again. Have a great day!

A Special Friday

Today's post isn't one of my customary Friday photo posts. That'll return next Friday :)

Today I just wanted to say a few things. First of all...

HAPPY SPRING

I took the photo above this afternoon in the backyard. The daffodils have bloomed out on cue. I just love them!

This morning was wonderful. I got the chance to see the solar eclipse. We usually don't get to see them much here in the UK because it's usually visible elsewhere or the weather doesn't cooperate. For the last few days, the weather forecast has been saying that we probably wouldn't see much because of the clouds and when I got up this morning it was really cloudy. I was like...oh well. I had decided to just watch it on television. Then all of a sudden I saw some sunlight and I ran into the backyard with my pinhole set up.  I saw the eclipse! It was so great! I was so excited that I was getting the chance to see, so I didn't get a photo, but in hindsight I don't mind :) Plus I really didn't want to burn my eyes up. Lol. It was great just to be in the moment and just experience the surroundings. It got so quiet and the birds stopped singing. It was an amazing experience!

Happy Spring...Happy Friday...Happy Weekend...
Happy Eclipse Day!!!

P.S. - I'll share my photos of my new storage box next week. Sorry for the delay :)

Weekend Catch Up...Catch Up, Not Ketchup

It's Tuesday as you know and usually I write about what I did over the weekend on Monday, but I got sidetracked yesterday. You don't want to know. Lol.

By the way, Happy St. Patrick's Day!

So back to my weekend catch up post on a Tuesday. Well, it was a rather normal weekend. We did a bit of errand running. We started on Friday with errands a bit and then did the rest on Saturday. Friday was a treat, because we dropped by this store that I love! They have interesting things for the home. It's a place with really unique gifts and there's sort of an eclectic theme to the store. It was really great to stop in on a Friday night an hour before they closed because there were very few people in there and it was easy to have a good look around. It was WONDERFUL! Usually it's so hard to have a good browse on Saturday and Sunday there because everyone else loves the store too. So it was a real treat to have a quiet experience.

I don't think that I've mentioned it here before, but I LOVE storage and I really love interesting boxes that I can use to store things. On Friday night I found a really nice box and it was dirt cheap. That's another good thing about that store...things are so reasonably priced.

I'll take a picture of my new storage box and post it here later this week. So if you're a storage enthusiast like me, please come on back and check out my new find ;-)

The rest of the weekend was spent just around the house doing the customary eating, reading, and watching movies. I'm a fun girl, huh? Lol!

Here's what Sunday dinner looked like. It was a bit of a cheat...not made from scratch at all...no shame in that. ;-) I seasoned it up a bit. It was a frozen prawn chili stir fry and this is a pic of the almost done phase. It was really delicious, especially after I put my seasoning skills to work. I need spice in my life as much as possible!

After I ate this I was a happy person and the rest of the evening was spent watching television and thinking about my book.

Even though I'm a couple of days late, I hope that you had a good weekend too! :)

Until next time...

A Friday Photo and Bluish Flowers

Today's Friday photo is from only a few days ago. These are the crocuses that have sprouted up in the backyard. They're from a planting years ago and they keep coming back for more :-)  They're kinda bluish so I love them even more! Okay, they're bluish-purple...lol...anyway, I love blue!

I'll be blogging about my beloved color blue in a post very soon. It's going to spotlight how I like to wear the color and my love for having blue things around my house. I hope you'll come back to read it.

It was a sunny day when I snapped this photo on my phone. It's a little blurry. Lol.

It's not sunny here at all today and it's chilly, but when I saw these pop up the other day it made my mind instantly go to thoughts of spring! It won't be long ;-)

Have a great weekend everyone!

The Weekend That Was

My weekend was a good one. How was yours? :)

We mostly did errands and then stayed around home this weekend, but I love weekends like that sometimes. Some television was watched...some food was eaten...it was good :)

Even though I didn't put pen to paper very much at all this past weekend, in my mind I was thinking through my book. I made a few notes on a pad. Lately I find myself rolling those book thoughts through my mind quite often. Don't worry though. When I was watching television and enjoying the weekend, I was quite present. No one-track mind for me ;-)

Today I'm back at it with my book and I'm excited to see where the story takes me today.

I hope you have a great day wherever you are!

Until next time...

A Friday Photo and A Sunset

Today's Friday photo is from early 2014 I think...somewhere around there. I took this at sunset. This photo is a little bit different from the ones I've shared previously. For one thing, it's more recent than the others, which shows me that I haven't been as inactive with taking pictures as I thought recently. Lol. And also, this photo was taken in the backyard, not in Avebury or somewhere else ;-)

Like many people, I love seeing a beautiful sunrise or sunset. There's just something life-affirming about seeing the daylight come and go. I get to stop for a moment and experience the beauty of nature and our planet. It's breathtaking!

Have a wonderful weekend wherever you are! :-)

Phone Update

I wanted to share that I got a new cell phone a few days ago. As I wrote in my short post here, I wasn't really excited about getting a new phone. I didn't want to spend the money. One thing about me...I'll keep something until it's a thousand years old. Lol.

Anyway, I gave in, because I feel better having one especially when I'm out by myself. So we went into town on Saturday and got another phone for me. It's nothing fancy, but it'll do the job. I didn't post a photo of it because I can't find my regular camera to take a photo of the phone. Lol. Therefore, this totally inappropriate phone photo above will have to do. It's not a cell phone as you can see and it's pretty retro, but I like it ;-)

Even though I'm not really a phone person, I did find that I missed it a little bit. I must say however that I did enjoy the quiet for that week. It made me remember what it was like before phones became our nearly constant companions :-) It was a nice break.

I'm just glad to have another phone and now I can get back to this regularly scheduled program....my life ;-)

Until next time...

Seventh Anniversary

Today is the seventh anniversary of the day that I started this blog. I know that people say this about anniversaries and things all the time, but I can't believe that seven years have passed. I love that this is the seventh for a few reasons that only mean something to me. Lol. They are as follows:

- Seven is my favorite number.
- I was the seventh child in my family.
- In my full name, 'Dorothy', there are seven letters.

I could go on and on :-) I just love seven...it's always meant something to me.

I started this blog on March 4th, and as I've shared on past blog anniversaries and such, things sort of lined up for me to start on that day. I had thought about starting a blog for months before I finally started, but I got up that day and just started. It seemed right because to me that day is a good day to start many things. It's March 4th, but when I say it it reminds me to 'march forth'. So it was a good day to start on this adventure.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that writing this blog in the very beginning saved me. I had been here in England for about two years at that point and honestly it was a tough time. Sometimes those first couple of years here are a blur. I was reeling from losing my mother in 2006 and from uprooting from everything that I knew. And to top it off, in late 2006 I got injured in a car accident. My emotions were all over the place. Don't get me wrong, it's a great experience to live abroad, but it was really tough in the early days.

So to fast forward to 2008, at that point I was coming out of some of the fog. My grief had subsided some, though I'll never stop missing my mom. But I was better. I still missed home, but I was able to see what was around me more and I began to really enjoy the experience of living elsewhere. And I was finally recovered fully from my injury. My heart wasn't so heavy and I was okay :-)

I had always written since I was a child, but I had a dry spell for those two years. So on March 4, 2008,  I decided to start this blog as a way to get into writing again and also I hoped to connect with other people. It helped me to get out of my own head and in the end, it saved me.

I don't have a huge readership, but I'm so grateful for each and every person who visits me here. The numbers don't matter. Thank you to EVERYONE who has ever read my blog! :-)

I plan to keep blogging for as long as I can. I hope to do more and more here as time goes by and I hope that you will visit me again :-)

I hope that this post wasn't too much of a downer. I don't like dredging up some of those tough times here, but I just wanted to provide some background on what it was like when I started this blog. I'm not down at all today actually. I'm rather joyous because I've stuck with this blog even though I don't know what I'm rambling on about sometimes. Lol.

Anyway, thank you for visiting me. I look forward to continuing on this path that I started seven years ago. I hope that you'll join me as I share more about my experiences! :-)

Until next time...
