Watching the Super Bowl in England

The Super Bowl is this Sunday, February 3rd and I'm getting excited! I'm a fairly new fan of NFL football and having been watching for about three years now. I've watched football in passing over the years as I grew up with a sister and brother who loved football, but I never was an active fan. I've always watched bits of the Super Bowl, but in the past it was mostly for the commercials and the half-time show.

Around here we may have some snacks, but nothing official in the vein of a Super Bowl party. I've been looking around on the internet, and I've found that there are loads of events in London that are being held in honor of the Super Bowl. American football has really developed a following over here in the UK over recent years. The NFL have even played a game over here for the last few years to give UK fans a chance to experience a NFL game. I think that this has definitely expanded the game with fans over here who didn't grow up with the NFL like I did. Several London bars and pubs are offering a full night of Super Bowl fun and it would be great to go. I think that it would be an intriguing experience to watch an American classic in the heart of London.

Brit Boy and I are going to do our best to watch most of the game, however it will be late here, so we might be snoring after a point. I may even Skype with my niece in the lead up in order to have some laughs. We'll do our best to bring some Super Bowl buzz to our corner of England. It should be a fun night. We'll have our snacks at the ready and I'll be singing along with Beyonce and the reunited Destiny's Child at half-time ;-)

My Atlanta Falcons didn't make it this time, but they came close. They had a great season! I'm still a Falcons or lose! So I don't know who I'm gonna cheer for. This clash is between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers. I'll probably just cheer for the sake of cheering and for nobody in particular. LOL. Why not?

If you'll be watching, I hope that you enjoy it! I know I will.

Snowy England

Hello there! So here are the photos that I promised to share of the snowy surroundings here in southwest England :-)  As I mentioned before, I'm not a big fan of snow, but it makes for nice scenery! I hope that you enjoy these :-)

A Special Day

I know that I said that my next post would be my snowy pictures post, but I will do that tomorrow.

Today I wanted to pay a short tribute to this special day!

These days separately mean a lot to me and having them on the same day is extra special. I am definitely back home in spirit today with my friends and family :-)

Snow Pics to Come

Hello! I hope that everyone is having a good weekend! Mine is going pretty well. It snowed here yesterday and even though it's pretty to look at, I'm ready for it to go be gone :-)  Everything grinds to a halt and you can't get anywhere that you need to go. I know that some will say, that I should just see it as a chance to slow down. Well I am a rather slowed down person by nature anyway and I love vegging out...believe me ;-)  So it's not that I can't sit still and just chill. Actually it probably has a little bit to do with getting stuck in a freak snowstorm about twenty years ago. So I'm not a big fan. But hey, what can you do? It's just one of those things I guess.

Life goes on and we make snowmen  :-)

Anyway, I know that there are lots of snow lovers out there and we all like seeing the pretty side of snow as it envelopes the scenery, so I have some photos that I'll share in my next post. I'm not a total Grinch. LOL. I do love the gentle beauty of it. I haven't looked at my photos yet, but hopefully I got some decent pics...fingers crossed.

Storage Units

I was skimming through some of my older photographs the other day just to see what I have. Lately I've been taking inventory of what I have and what I need to purge. I guess that it's like an early spring cleaning exercise. So when I was looking through my old photos, I came across some snapshots of my first visit back home to Georgia a few years ago. I'm always taking pictures and documenting everything, so I wasn't surprised to see some photos of my storage units that I used to have. Like I said, I take pictures of everything and so this was a picture of the contents of the unit. I know it may sound kooky, but at the time it was what I needed to do. It wasn't about materialism at was about remembering a part of my life.

I've written here from time to time about my struggles early on in this experience of living abroad. Like a lot of people who go to live in another country, I found that I had struggles with my identity. I know that my "things" don't define me, but leaving everything behind to start anew can liberating, and yet it can also be very unsettling. My reaction was the latter. So when I went there to sort through some of my things, it was more powerful emotionally than I thought it would be. It sounds cliche, but a part of my life did seem like it was boxed up and staring right back at me as I opened the door. It was good to see my very own things again after having spent quite a while inside this new life that didn't feel like mine yet. I think that my experience with moving to England was tinged with sadness over the sudden loss of my mother. So when I opened that storage unit door, a bit of my life "before" flooded back to me. It was strange. I didn't feel sad. I instantly felt grounded again like everything was gonna be okay. I guess it was like taking a look back...holding the memories close...and then walking onward again. I enjoyed that trip home immensely. Who knew that a trip to the storage unit would be so helpful :-)

Storage units are interesting places. I no longer have mine, but it served its purpose to hold onto a few things for me...both physically and spiritually. Mine was a place to store things that were treasures to me and as an in-between place to bridge from one life to another. Yes, sometimes they can also be a pack rat's paradise, but sometimes they are just what you need when you're in transition in your life. I appreciate that I had a place to keep things as I figured out my next steps and now I am fine and thriving in this new country.
It's funny how photos can instantly take you back to times past and reveal so much to you about yourself. I guess that is why I love taking pictures, because they are like the pages of a diary in a way and can reveal such truth...even about storage units.

Shattered Burgers

Look at what's happened to our timer....

We've had it a little bit over a year and now it is no more. Boo hoo! I LOVED our burger food timer, but alas it shattered over the weekend. I dropped it and one half of the bun went one way, one half went the other and the inner workings scattered. I tried to fix it, but the white disc that you see here now has a chip out of it and a piece is missing, so it will not work. Darn! Oh well...

I remember where we got it so we're gonna go by there sometime and see if they have anymore. It's nothing fancy and kind of kitschy, but it was our little inexpensive fun timer and we loved it. If you ever want to know about our sense of humor around the Yellow House, just think about what our food timer looks like. We like to have fun. That's apologies  :-)

So when we get our new timer or something else that suits us, I'll share it here. Have a good day!

Dreaming of Warmer Places

Since we are now fully into the winter months, and we received a dusting of snow here last night, all that I can think of is escaping to a warmer climate. Winter is okay, but it's not my favorite season. I'm more of a spring and autumn kind of girl.

It's been a long time since we took a sunny holiday complete with palm trees and everything. The last time was in 2006 when we were on our honeymoon. It seems like a lifetime ago now. So over the last few days I've been in a holiday frame of mind and I've come across some cheap holidays to Majorca. I've never visited, but I hear that it's beautiful there. It's the largest island in the Balearic Islands archipelago in Spain and is located in the Mediterranean Sea. I'd love to be there right about now...but then wouldn't we all? :-)

Majorca is a place of golden beaches and beautiful scenery and there seems to be something for everyone there, whether you want nightlife or just a relaxing time on the beach. There are also opportunities for golfing, bicycling, and diving along with so many other activities! According to my research, the climate is great and has mild winters and hot summers. I can feel that sunshine right now! This place sounds like just what the doctor ordered.

Even though I don't know exactly when we'll get there, it's still fun to do a bit of daydreaming, or what I like to call forward planning ;-)

Have a great day!

How to Create a Cozy Living Room

Today I have a guest post from Loan at . I hope you enjoy this informational post.

The living room is a popular place for hosting guests, and it’s the place where family members gather together after long working days. If you are looking for ideas for making your living room warmer and more comfortable during this winter and for upcoming holidays, the following tips will help you get started.
1.   Top Tips to Create a Cozy Living Room

As winter is coming, having a cozy living room is more important than ever. Planning the layout of your room is a great way to create a cozy one. You should arrange seating intentionally so that it can actually be used. Chairs, sofas, and tables should be close enough to each other to be functional. That way, you can chat with family and friends without yelling. Moreover, flexible spaces are best with ample seating in a room. You can place side tables to serve drinks as well as make the room useful for both entertaining and watching TV.

Furniture arrangement and choosing is another critical thing to work on. First of all, determine a focal point, which may be the fireplace in the winter. Then you can arrange other items around this point. To warm up your room, you can choose fabrics and textures such as long drapery panels, an area rug, and velvet pillows. They will add softness and insulation as well as layers of comfort to your living room. You can pick yours wisely with coupons like a  coupon here .

In addition, colors and lighting can give your living room a cozy feel. Warm and dark colors bring coziness. Among warm colors like yellow (golden), brown-red (terracotta), scarlet and more, brown is the best choice, and can be found in walnut, cherry and oak. Also, let your lighting scheme convey the message of coziness. Decorative lamps, spotlights, and candles can light up your room softly and invitingly. You can choose from many lighting options easily when using coupons, for example  here .

2.    Decorating Ideas for Christmas
The living room is often a familiar place for your friends and loved ones to get together around Christmas time. Presents are usually opened here on Christmas mornings. Placing twinkling lights around your Christmas tree during that occasion can bring a great feeling of nostalgia. Moreover, you can have intimate talk with your friends or someone special when decorating your room with candles and votive lamps.

Your Christmas tree is the central point in your living room in winter. There you can display personal and meaningful items such as art work of your kids. Also, strings of old Christmas cards together with beautiful and sentimental ornaments can warm up your room. Pictures of your family can be arranged on tables or hung on walls. They will rekindle lasting memories of your beloved ones. A warm and colorful living room will enrich your family’s Christmas history.

The cozier the living room you create, the more you and your family will appreciate it. I hope that you will have the coziest room of the house to enjoy your leisure time comfortably with your loved ones. Hot Chocolate Memories

Hello all...

I hope that everyone has had a good weekend. Mine was pretty good. Today I thought that I would simply share a picture in line with my previous promise to share more about my day to day life.

So here it is...

I got this tin of hot chocolate in the lead up to Christmas and I have been enjoying drinking it here and there, especially when it's been chilly outside. Hot chocolate always reminds me of my childhood. My mom used to make such good hot chocolate for me and to this day I still can't make it taste like hers. I guess it was magic! :-)

Still, this hot chocolate is okay. Not my favorite, but okay. The plus in this whole thing is that after it's empty, I'll have a neat tin to store things in, so I'm excited about that. I love storage ;-)

Have a good day!
