Warnock and Ossoff

The sun will shine again

As I mentioned in my Instagram post a few days ago, despite all of the disgusting craziness that happened at the Capitol in Washington, DC on Wednesday, something incredibly wonderful happened this week too.

Georgia, my home state, has elected Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff to the United States Senate to represent us. I voted by absentee ballot since I am currently across the pond. It was truly an honor to vote for both of these men and I am proud to have them as my senators.

Georgia came through for the second time!!! 👏👏💙💙

I was heartened by Jon Ossoff and Reverend Warnock's tweets.

Senator-elect Ossoff wrote:

"Better days are coming."

~ Jon Ossoff

And Senator-elect Warnock wrote:

"Joy comes in the morning. Thank you Georgia."

~ Reverend Raphael Warnock

I know that the road will be difficult, but the way I see it, we have to keep hope alive and keep fighting for what is right. It is a marathon, not a sprint.

When Reverend Warnock and Jon Ossoff won the Senate seats this week, I thought immediately of the late Congressman John Lewis and all of the Civil Rights Movement icons. There is a connecting line from them to the tremendous get-out-the-vote work of Stacey Abrams and LaTosha Brown and all of those in these grassroots organizations to the election of Warnock and Ossoff. Reverend Warnock is the pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta which is where Reverend Dr Martin Luther King Jr served as pastor. Jon Ossoff served as an intern to Congressman John Lewis.

I wish both of our new senators the very best and I look forward to the good work that they can do in order to move the United States of America forward.
