Visiting Bath Once Again

This past Saturday, my hubby and I took a trip to Bath. It's not too far away and we love visiting there when we get the chance. While we were there enjoying ourselves, we wondered why we don't visit more often. We've decided that we'll definitely be visiting more often and enjoying more of what that beautiful city has to offer :)

The photo above is one of my favorite views of Bath along the River Avon. It's so beautiful. A great deal of Bath is constructed out of Bath stone, which has that lovely honey-colored hue to it.

The photo below is from lunch...nachos!!  ;-) Nachos are always a good idea in my book. Lol.

It was an overcast day for the most part, but it didn't matter because we had a fantastic time!

If you'd like to check out a few of my past posts about Bath, you can see them here and here.

Christmas Around Bath

Over the weekend, hubby and I went to Bath. Instead of going to do our errands in our usual town centre, we decided that Saturday errands could be done just as easily in a lovely place like Bath. It's not too far away and the view during the drive is absolutely stunning. Plus, this was the last weekend of the Christmas Market so we thought that we'd go and soak up the atmosphere. It definitely gets me into the spirit of the holidays! Here are some of the photos that I took of the decorations that we saw as we walked around. I hope you enjoy them!

The big tree outside Bath Abbey
Part of the Christmas Market and there's even a yellow house nearby to go along with the name of this blog. I didn't intend to catch the yellow house in the shot, but I guess it was meant to be ;-)

Have a wonderful day!

A Friday Photo and the Other View

Today's Friday photo was taken in Bath in November 2013. Each time we visit Bath, it's always a nice day out. It's not too far to travel to and the scenery along the way is beautiful, even before you get to the lovely city.

Usually when I take pictures along the river there, I take them in the other direction, mostly because of the architecture. However, the view down the river is equally as nice in the other direction. It's a quieter, calmer view and I love to watch the boats.

I look forward to returning to Bath again in the near future and when I do, hopefully I'll have another new view to share :)

Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend wherever you are!

Visiting Bath on Saturday

I just wanted to drop in and say hello. Happy Monday! :-)

I hope that everyone had a great weekend. My weekend was great! My other half and I went to Bath on Saturday and it was fun as always. It was cold, but it was still a good day out.

One thing that I love about Bath is the beautiful architecture.

Here's a photo that I took of Bath Abbey as we walked around. This is a small section, but I love this angle.

Just beautiful...

Have a wonderful day!

Visiting Bath Once Again

Today I thought that I'd share another one of my Instagram pics as I'm fond of doing now and then. I took this photo this past Friday in Royal Victoria Park in Bath. If you've visited me a few times here you'll know that I love going to Bath. It's probably my favorite place that I've visited here in England. I like it because the architecture is so beautiful and even though the traffic can be kind of a nightmare it's still calmer than London. I like London a lot too, but sometimes the noise can get to me. I love London for the museums, theatre, and Covent Garden, etc. It's a great place to visit, but when I want to be laid back a bit, Bath is my place :-)

Another great thing about Bath is that it's not that far away from where I live. It's in the next county, which is Somerset, but it's just over the border so it's easy to be there in a pretty short time. Also, the drive through the country in order to get there is so nice. I'm a country girl at heart...always have been and always will be :-)

I've been going to Bath for years, but this was my first time visiting Royal Victoria Park. I'm gonna have to go back when it's warmer, but getting to see it with some of the fall colors around was a treat. It was a nice way to spend the day after Thanksgiving.

Have a wonderful day!

Lovely Bath

Today I'm finally sharing my photos that I took during our recent trip to beautiful Bath. It was a bit of an overcast day and near the end it rained, but that city is a gorgeous place to visit in mostly any weather. There are many things that I love about Bath...it's architecturally beautiful, it's just the right size, and I always feel a difference when I visit. I'll explain. I've been living here for a bit over six and a half years now, and even though it is great to live here, after a while I've gotten used to it because I'm living a normal life everyday. I know that it's a treat to get a chance to live outside one's homeland, but for me when I'm let's say, washing dishes, I could be anywhere as I get dishpan hands :-) I guess that what I'm trying to say is that after this while and simply getting on with life, I don't think daily about the fact that I live in another country. But from time to time, when I'm least expecting it, I have this realization that "hey, I'm in a totally different country". And in those moments I'm truly grateful for the opportunity to have this experience. I try to be grateful generally in my life, but I do get those moments when I stop in the middle in my life and take a look around. I guess you could say that momentarily I stop and smell the roses. When I have those moments I tell myself that I have to take notice more...I'm working on it...I'm a work in progress :-) Anyway, back to my story. So when I'm in Bath I have those moments of realization and I feel the difference, like "yeah, I'm somewhere else". Bath is probably my favorite place so far that I've visited in England.

We went to Bath that day to simply have a lovely day out and it was great! Brit Boy and I always enjoy having a stroll around the city and this is where Brit Boy attended university, so it holds a special place in his heart. Since I've been so wordy already, I'll just make the rest of this more of a photo post with very few words ;-)

Left: This is a rather blurry pic that I took from the car as we were waiting to get off at the exit. Bath is beautifully laid out within the rolling hills.

Right: The view as we drove along into town to get to the parking. I love the way the houses hug the curve of the road.

Left: The view driving into town and down the hill
Above: I love the shape of this building
Above: Street Scene...Bath is full of cozy little areas like this

Above: Pretty side street. I don't know the name of the church, but I love how it is nestled just right there
Above: A view of Bath Abbey and to the right are the Roman Baths

Above: Which way do we go???? LOL

Above: My delicious lunch...a spinach & cheese ravioli garnished with cheese and salad and the glorious bread. Yum!!!! Wish I had some now! It was SO good! We ate at a department store restaurant and were floored that the food was so nice and tasty and reasonably priced!

Above: Brit Boy's lasagna

Above: Last but not least, the sweet shop where I got my Nerds candy that I mentioned in my previous post. It was such a cute shop...old fashioned and just perfect!
And that's all folks! I have about a thousand more photos of Bath because every time we go I just can't help myself. It is that beautiful! I always feel at home there. And I LOVE getting the chance to share it with all of you. I will share some more photos in the future because I want everyone to get the chance to experience this interesting place. So I hope that you'll indulge any future photo posts that I do ;-)  These photos don't even scratch the surface. More to come...

If you'd like to know more about Bath, just let me know in the comments. I could talk about it forever and I'm not being paid by the city, I just love this beautiful place. LOL.

Until next time...

Nerd Love

This is just a quick post to share something that I love! A little treat that I remember from when I was growing up!

I LOVE NERDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been enjoying the last few that I have and it has been nostalgic and fun! I hadn't had these in years and then I found some in a sweet shop in London when we were there for the Olympics. Then fast forward to a couple of weeks ago when we were in Bath and yet again I went into an old-fashioned sweet shop and found some. I know that they are nothing but sugar, but who cares...I like them ;-) I don't get treats like this often so when I can I'm very happy. The biggest part of it I think is the nostalgia :-)

As I mentioned, I got these when we were in Bath and I promised to share some photos of Bath here from that trip, so my next post will be about our little trip to Bath...one of my favorite places in all of England!

I hope that you'll come back to check out my photos and my story about what we were up to there. Until next time...

A Trip Through Marlborough

I thought that I would share some more today about the county where I live. There are loads of tiny villages in Wiltshire that look like they have been taken out of a storybook and then there are bigger towns that have their own identities. And mixed in with all of this, you have lots of sweeping landscapes of green, dotted with sheep grazing on the hills. Even though I have been here a while now, the scenery still regularly captures my imagination. Some of the rural areas remind me of back home and my mind goes back to my childhood, when I enjoying running in the fields and playing. So I am just really enjoying exploring and learning about all that I can here. :)

Yesterday we were out and about and passed through the town of Marlborough, here in Wiltshire. Marlborough is a pretty town and the High Street is one of my favorites. The High Street there is one of the widest around and gives a great view if you stand at one end of the street and look ahead. Apparently it is so wide due to being rebuilt that way after the Great Fire of Marlborough in 1653. It is very picturesque and it’s even prettier during Christmas. There are so many interesting shops and Marlborough is historically rich.

It is situated on the Old Bath Road, which used to be the main road between London and Bath. Marlborough College, a boarding school, is one of the landmarks of the town and was founded in 1843. For any of you royal watchers, Princess Eugenie and also Kate Middleton, have attended school there.

Here are a couple of photos I took of the town as we drove through. The brown building in the foreground of the first photo is the Town Hall. The other photo is a portion of the view down the High Street.

On a personal note, Marlborough is special to Brit Boy and me because that is where he bought my engagement ring a few years ago. I wasn’t with him at the time of course, but he bought it at The Marlborough Jewellers. When we passed by, I think that I read out front that this shop was established in 1776, but don’t hold me to that. :-) Either way, the shop has been there a long time. I don’t have some huge sparkler of an engagement ring, and that kind of stuff has never mattered to me. I have a beautiful ring though and I love it because Brit Boy gave it to me. It’s also romantic to me that it came from a very traditional little shop with a long history, in a pretty little town. :-)
