Plums and Parties

It’s a cloudy day here, but a nice calm morning. I love Saturday mornings. You have the whole day and then Sunday ahead of you. What could be better (smile)

I’m trying to eat more fruit nowadays, so I’ve been in the kitchen trying to decide what to have. I’m still undecided. The lay of the land is like this…we have plums, bananas, and grapefruit.

Hmm,this photo is making my mind up for me...maybe I’ll have a plum. And I’m thinking of putting some bananas into my muffins that I’m going to make later. I usually make those blueberry oatmeal muffins, but I thought it might be tasty to substitute the bananas for the blueberries this time. Brit Boy is okay with it either way…he just likes to eat them (smile).

Anyway, we’re just hanging out today around home and then we’re venturing out this evening to a surprise party. It’s for Brit Boy’s former sister-in-law. I don’t know her very well, but I guess I will after the party (smile). So it’s party night at the yellow house! Have a great weekend!

Relief and Pancake Day

Yesterday was an eventful day. Brit Boy and I had to go to the hospital early in the day for my appointment. We left home early so that we could get there on time, but of course, we met quite a bit of traffic. It was wild. I didn’t know that many people lived out our way. LOL. Brit Boy thought it was more busy than usual too. Anyway, we took a detour here and a detour there and we finally made it to the hospital with a few minutes to spare.

I had to go back to have a check up again because I’ve been having some problems with a bit of pain in my breast. They wanted to have another look at me since the last time I went.

They checked me out again and the good news is, I’m fine. I don’t have “the disease we all worry about”. I have a bit of lumpiness, which they say happens a lot, so I’ll just have to keep watch over it. And to tell you the truth, I was relieved, but the whole thing hadn’t been taking over all my thoughts. I guess that is where faith comes in…you believe that things are going to be okay and if they’re not, then you rely on faith to get through whatever is ahead. You know, I wish that my mom could hear me say that, she would be amazed. (smile) She used to advise me to not worry so much, but I think that this was something that I’ve had to grow into. But I will say, I’m not some robot who had no thoughts of what could happen. Of course I had that thought, and it scared me for a minute, but then I just said, okay, let’s just see what they say. I don’t mean to come across like I’m oversimplifying it, but I was just simply glad that I’m okay (smile) What a blessing.

To change gears…after we left the hospital, I went along for the ride with Brit Boy while he saw a client. Then we came home and celebrated Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day here. We had pancakes for a sort of early dinner. Hey, we both love pancakes and we don’t have them very often, so they were great. Brit Boy eats them the British way with a bit of lemon juice and sugar, while I eat them with maple syrup. Delicious! (smile) We were happy campers.

In different places around the country, people have pancake races, where they run along with a frying pan which has a pancake in it and they try to run and flip the pancake as they run along. Brit Boy and I didn’t have our own little pancake race, but maybe next year ;-)

Anyway, it was a nice light-hearted way to end the day. Long live Pancake Day!

I'm Vertical Again

Hi there :-) Well, I took my much needed rest since I posted here last and many days before that when I was AWOL from here, and now I’m doing better. Brit Boy is fine too. Thank you to all of you who came by here to offer your get well wishes…Brit Boy and I really appreciate it. We are getting back into life after what seems like an eternity lying horizontal :-) In all, we were sick for about eight days, give or take a day. We don’t know who had the cooties first since we started to feel sick the same day :-) I haven't said "cooties" in years. LOL. It was yucky though…ugh. We’re just glad we are feeling better. We took the time we needed to rest and even though we were nauseous most of the time, it was just nice to slow down anyway :-) While we were stuck horizontal we talked about how we humans don’t realize we are rushing so much through life until we are forced to slow down. What a lesson that is :-) Anyway, enough sick talk.

I’m playing catch up here a bit today. Ah, let’s see…oh, our Valentine’s Day was good. We were sick and there were no flowers or candy this year, but it was just nice to have our romantic sick-fest together…hey, we’re easily amused ;-) We both said that there’s nobody we’d rather be sick with…now that’s true love :-) I know, enough already, right? Anyway, we watched movies and had a good day.

While I was lying around, I did finish one of my books that I’ve been reading. It was The Legs Are The Last To Go by Diahann Carroll. It was really a good read. I love biographies and autobiographies, so this was right up my alley. I always like to read how others, especially my elders, have persevered in their lives despite it being an uphill battle. Ms. Carroll has indeed led a wonderful life. Her accounts of her days in Hollywood, on Broadway and in the music world are truly intriguing. The list of people that she has known and/or worked with reads like a who’s who of the 20th century. I have always thought that she was one of the truly elegant ladies of our time and through the photos you see that she has truly been a beauty from the early days of her career over fifty years ago. There are also tales she tells of tough times, which ring true, because what life goes unscathed.

Besides her obvious beauty and elegance, you also get to see a woman who was intent upon showing her talent and fighting for equality. Ms. Carroll was a trailblazer along with others like Eartha Kitt, Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, and so many more who paved the way in popular culture and in many other ways. I honor them all. They make me stand taller as a woman when I think of what they have gone through before me. They, like my own ancestors, light my path everyday. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I believe it will stay with me for a long while. What a gift :-)

I'm Still Online and I Need To Be Resting

Hey all, I had planned to write that quick post from earlier and then I was going to lie down. Yeah right...LOL. Well, I'm a bit of an addict so I stayed online and went ahead and dropped some Entrecards on some of my fellow Entrecarders out there ;-) So you may see me in your inbox. Anyway, I guess that I'll log off now. I'm gettting kind of nauseous...LOL. Time to lie down now and be a good patient :-)

P.S. Brit Boy was online too, so I wasn't hardheaded alone :-)

Sick Days Again

I just wanted to check in here after a few days away. I've been sick as a dog lately and so has Brit Boy so we're being sick together. Awww how romantic...LOL. Seriously though we have been having flu-like symptoms, but it isn't the flu. We just feel really yucky though. We don't know who had it first, we just both started to feel lousy on Sunday and it has lasted a few days. Anyway, we're hunkering down and just taking our meds, drinking our green tea and watching daytime television together. So it's all good :-)

Also, to go along with us not feeling good, we have had two power cuts in the last two days. The electricity went out Tuesday morning and they got it fixed pretty quickly. And then yesterday afternoon the lights went out again. We called in again, but it was kind of a race against the clock for them to get it fixed. You see, we had our grocery delivery coming, so we weren’t wanting to have a bunch of thawed out frozen stuff on our hands or non-refrigerated refrigerated food. We didn’t panic or anything, but we joked about hearing a tick tock in our heads, as we wondered which would happen first…would we get electricity before our delivery got here or hours after our delivery :-) Since we were doing the sick thing, we just went upstairs and took a lie down on the bed. We opened the curtains and just watched the blue sky, which was the only thing we could see lying down like that. It was tranquil and lovely. We watched the birds flying by and a few jets and just chilled out. All was well. No worries.

In the end, the delivery came a bit before the electricity, so Brit Boy took our frozen stuff to his mother’s. He just came back from going to pick it up. So I guess that it’s back to getting better together :-)

I’m very grateful to all of you who come here to read my blog, so I just wanted you to know that I haven’t run off or anything. Not a chance…although I wish that I felt good enough to run or walk at a quick pace anywhere at this point without wanting to instantly lie down :-) I will be back and going strong again soon and to my fellow Entrecarders , I’ll be back to dropping soon too.

Take care and enjoy your day. Now it’s back to the couch or bed for me….wherever Brit Boy is is where I’ll be parked.

Snow Is the Word

Well, we had snow overnight again and it is still snowing out here in Wiltshire. It’s pretty to look at, but it’s tough to get around. The main roads are fine, but out where we live, some of the roads are kind of piled up. The local authorities are running out of grit/salt so they aren’t able to treat many of the roads. So there is a scramble going on. I learned something new about this whole grit/salt business from the news the other day that I didn’t know. Apparently they put molasses in some of the grit/salt here to help it grip better. Who knew :-)

We keep getting lots of snow each night. It’s been back and forth. It revved up again overnight and we woke up to more snow this morning. Right now it’s really coming down again. It looks like little white feathers falling out of the sky.

Here’s a photo I took from the upstairs window earlier, before it started snowing hard again. I went outside to check things out. Gotta see what's going on in "the shire" ;-) I had been beaten to making tracks in the snow though. Brit Boy had beaten me to it earlier when he left for work and then I met the lady who hands out the newspaper supplement. So there was lots of traffic down our path. I am still thinking about going out to make a snow angel later. We shall see :-) I think I’ll wait for Brit Boy and we can make a matching set.

We were due to have our garbage pickup today, but I don’t think they will be making it down our street today. We have a hilly, winding, narrow street that’s getting trickier to drive down by the minute, so it’s probably best that they don’t try it today. We’ll be fine though…our wheelie bin is only about half full.

So the word for this week in wintry Wiltshire is definitely….SNOW! :-) Have a great weekend!

Snow Day 2009

As some of you may have heard, we had snow here in the UK yesterday and it was really lovely. I wanted to share some of my photos with all of you. I went out with my hubby to keep him company on his ride to see a client, and as always, I took my camera along. Here’s what it looked like around Wiltshire, from the car and on foot and Trevor got in on the fun too. I hope you enjoy the photos :)
