Winter Is Definitely Here

Photo taken from the passenger side of a moving car so that's why it's blurry 😉

We woke up to a bit of snow this morning.
   Winter has definitely arrived❄😊

Snow Day

We had some snow over the weekend. We woke up to snow on Sunday without knowing that it was coming. It was quite a snowy weekend in many places apparently, because my family also got snow back home in the Atlanta area. I guess that winter has arrived ;-)

The snow has melted on our street for the most part now with only a few patches in the shade. I imagine that those remnants will refreeze for a while since it's so cold.

Stay warm out there!

Have a great day wherever you are!

Snowy England

Hello there! So here are the photos that I promised to share of the snowy surroundings here in southwest England :-)  As I mentioned before, I'm not a big fan of snow, but it makes for nice scenery! I hope that you enjoy these :-)

Quick Snow

It's partly sunny here now and the snow is melting, but this morning when we woke up, this is what we saw...

It actually started snowing last night a little bit, but it was still interesting to see the effects the morning after :) It was pretty, but I'm glad that it is melting because it's kind of hard to get out of our street when it snows because it's so hilly around here. I really don't want to fall on my butt trying to walk out of here. Lol. I'm glad that we got a pretty view this morning and now the snow is doing the polite thing and melting ;-)

Just thought I'd share a couple of pics of our snowy trees! Have a great weekend everyone! :)

MERRY CHRISTMAS

I wanted to wish everyone who celebrates, a Merry Christmas! :-) It's Christmas Eve as I write this and I have to say that I really adore this day. There's a glow that bounces off of everything. You can enjoy the comfort and festive atmosphere of the holiday and still have Christmas Day to look forward to.

I have a few photos to share that I've taken over the last few days. They're of the view out of one of our windows. Here's a little Christmas greeting from us at the Yellow House.

And I just wanted to share this one below because the lights came out looking squiggly and funny and I like weird things...lol ;-)

And finally, here's a view from the other day when we had some snow. I thought that it looked like somebody had put whipped cream on everything with the way that the snow was hanging everywhere.

We got a few treats from home in the mail yesterday, courtesy of my family. Some things I haven't opened, but this was out in the open and we've been enjoying them very much indeed. I LOVE these candies! They're peppermint nougat and having this taste from home is so wonderful! Brit Boy tasted them for the first time and he likes them too. So we're quite pepperminty around here...lol.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful Christmas and that you're able to enjoy some time with the ones you love. Until next time...all the best! :-)

Christmas Fun & Books About Princes

Hello all! :-) I just wanted to check in with a quick post. I’m doing fine and trying to stay warm. We’ve had some snowy, icy days this week and today the ice is finally melting off our street. Hurray! ;-) It’s still cold as heck, but I guess that’s to be expected. Anyway, we put our Christmas tree up the other day and it’s all Christmassy around here. I can’t believe that Christmas Eve is only a couple of weeks away.

I love this time of the year for many reasons, but one of my fun reasons is that we get the chance to pull out our Christmas characters and things. In my next post, I’m going to introduce you to some of our little friends that we have hanging out with us around here. I’ll prepare my line-up and then show them to you all in my next post ;-)

In other news, please stop by my other blog, Yellow House Views, to check out my introductory post about a new book that I've been given the opportunity to review. In light of the latest news about Prince William and Kate Middleton tying the knot next year, it’s an interesting read so far. I haven’t quite finished it though. I’ll be posting my review of it over at Yellow House Views soon. So please drop by if you have a moment and check out my intro :-)

Well, that’s all for today. I’m going to go and do a bit of photographing…Christmas style…and I’ll be back with those photos in a day or two!
Have a great weekend and I’ll talk to you later…

Mini Cam Moments #5 and Snow!!!!!

Hello all :-) Things are getting more back to normal around the Yellow House after the holidays. We finally got our new washing machine after nearly a month of waiting on the landlord to get his backside in gear ;-) So now I’m making my way through mounds of laundry. I may dig out by spring. LOL. Seriously though, I’m making some progress. Also I’m getting back into the swing with my school work after this break. I’m on the tail end of things now so I’m excited about that.

In more picturesque news, we had snow here in many parts of England overnight and Wiltshire, where we live, got its share. It’s still snowing now. I wanted to share a few photos with you. These were taken a couple of hours ago, so the snow is deeper now, but you can still see what it’s like here today :-)

These are photos that I took when we took our walk earlier. I told Brit Boy that some places look as if someone took a snow machine from the movies and just blasted things. It’s fluffy snow this time that snuggles up to everything :-) I hope you enjoy this peek into our world today.

And here’s an entry into my series of Mini Cam Moments. It’s been a long while ;-) This is me and Brit Boy walking along. Check out our feet. LOL. I love the sound of crunching snow. You can hear kids playing in the background. They were sliding down the hill nearby and enjoying the snow. I thought about joining in :-)

Have a great day wherever you are!

Christmas All Around

I just wanted to drop by and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Brit Boy and I went to London to the theatre yesterday and it was great. I'll share a full report in a few days. I'm going to be taking a mini blogging break for a few days, but I just wanted to share a few sights from Christmas around the Yellow House.

We had a bit of snow here in Wiltshire over the past few days, but now it's all gone. Here's the snow resting on the heads of our little gnome and cat in the garden.

And this is a view out front with the snow dusting everything. You can see a bit of our decorations. They are multi-colored lanterns that we have draped across the window.

Here's my latest creation in the kitchen. It's sort of a Victoria Sponge/Strawberry Shortcake/Strawberry Cheesecake hybrid that I came up with and I'll probably never be able to make it again. LOL. It's a vanilla layer cake with a bit of strawberry juice drizzled into the pores and then I globbed on the cream cheese icing and put strawberries in the center. It's reminiscent of a cake I did before, but it's one better. We had some today and it was delicious. I think I'll try this one again for Valentine's Day or something :-)

And here are a couple of photos in London of Covent Garden. It was bustling with pre-Christmas traffic. We walked from here to the theatre. It was a wonderful afternoon :-)

Have a wonderful holiday!

Snow Is the Word

Well, we had snow overnight again and it is still snowing out here in Wiltshire. It’s pretty to look at, but it’s tough to get around. The main roads are fine, but out where we live, some of the roads are kind of piled up. The local authorities are running out of grit/salt so they aren’t able to treat many of the roads. So there is a scramble going on. I learned something new about this whole grit/salt business from the news the other day that I didn’t know. Apparently they put molasses in some of the grit/salt here to help it grip better. Who knew :-)

We keep getting lots of snow each night. It’s been back and forth. It revved up again overnight and we woke up to more snow this morning. Right now it’s really coming down again. It looks like little white feathers falling out of the sky.

Here’s a photo I took from the upstairs window earlier, before it started snowing hard again. I went outside to check things out. Gotta see what's going on in "the shire" ;-) I had been beaten to making tracks in the snow though. Brit Boy had beaten me to it earlier when he left for work and then I met the lady who hands out the newspaper supplement. So there was lots of traffic down our path. I am still thinking about going out to make a snow angel later. We shall see :-) I think I’ll wait for Brit Boy and we can make a matching set.

We were due to have our garbage pickup today, but I don’t think they will be making it down our street today. We have a hilly, winding, narrow street that’s getting trickier to drive down by the minute, so it’s probably best that they don’t try it today. We’ll be fine though…our wheelie bin is only about half full.

So the word for this week in wintry Wiltshire is definitely….SNOW! :-) Have a great weekend!

Snow Day 2009

As some of you may have heard, we had snow here in the UK yesterday and it was really lovely. I wanted to share some of my photos with all of you. I went out with my hubby to keep him company on his ride to see a client, and as always, I took my camera along. Here’s what it looked like around Wiltshire, from the car and on foot and Trevor got in on the fun too. I hope you enjoy the photos :)

We Got Snow!!!

We got some snow last night and it was still snowing this morning a bit, but now it's melting. Here are a couple of photos before the melt began. It was enough to be pretty without grinding things to a halt. It was wonderful to watch it snow last night with Brit Boy right next to me at the window. Ain't life grand :-)

Snow in the Countryside

I wanted to share some photos that I took on Thursday on the way to Salisbury. Brit Boy and I were heading down there for a meeting. As I wrote about on Wednesday, we have been having some very frosty mornings. So when we headed out on Thursday morning, it was icy again. As we drove further out into the countryside towards Salisbury, we saw that it had snowed a tiny bit. We had heard on the radio that some areas got snow, but we didn’t. So it was a wonderful sight to see the dusting of snow across the fields. I just love being out where I can see the land and enjoy the beauty of nature.

All of these photos were taken from the car, so they have a cool blurry quality. I like to see how they will come out, so I just snap away as Brit Boy drives along. I love having a chance to share some of them with you all.

The first one is of a lone black bird sitting in the middle of the snowy field. I love the contrast :-)

This next one is the view across a field. On either side of the road, there’s a wonderful panoramic view.

I love this spot. You drive down the hill and off to the left there’s a drop off into a valley.

Here’s a view of Salisbury Cathedral’s spire in the distance as we drove into Salisbury. This spire is the tallest one in the United Kingdom. It is a beautiful building and is a beautiful sanctuary.

On our way back from Salisbury, I took a couple of more photos of the surroundings. By then, the thin layer of snow had melted. We came back through Avebury. Here is a line of some of the huge stones. It is reminiscent of Stonehenge, but these at Avebury are more spread out.

This last photo is of one of the larger stones that is placed very close to the road. It almost looks as if we are headed right for it, but we weren’t. It just came out weird like that. I saw the stone coming and I turned around in my seat a bit and just kind of snapped it as we passed by. I didn't know if I would get it or not.

It was a fun ride! :-)

April Snow & Mom

Today would have been my mom’s birthday. I love that it falls on a Sunday this year, because she loved Sundays. For a while after she died I disliked Sundays because she died on a Sunday. It hurt so much that I just couldn’t face the day somehow. But I am coming to know bit by bit that time does heal, because last year on her birthday I was sad. I was wishing that I could call her and wish her a happy birthday. But something has shifted within me, without me even noticing very much. She has been gone a bit over two years now and there is something settling within me. I will never ever forget her, but it seems that I have been unconsciously creating a place within my heart just for her slowly, bit by bit. So today, on this Sunday, I rejoice in the fact that this was her favorite day of the week, and that her birthday falls on this day this year. I am getting to the point now where I am seeing the beauty of the fact that she lived and not concentrating on when she died. To have lived is a joyous thing and I saw how much she meant to the world she left behind when we had her funeral. So I am proud that she was my mother. My mom was a sunny person, no matter the circumstances, even though she was like many and had some hard times in her life. She had that something within that just wouldn’t be beaten. The outside world couldn’t take away her smile or her good attitude. That is how I want to be one day. I have read many things that tell how to be like that, and yet, my mom was that way and didn’t get it from a self-help book. (smile) So with the sun shining today, on this Sunday that she loved, I think of her smile and remember how she lived.

It’s funny, even though it is a sunny day outside right now, we actually woke up to snow this morning. They had forecast it, but as we all know, sometimes they get it right and sometimes they miss it by a mile. We were forecast to have snow recently and it didn’t materialize. It’s just how it goes. Yet today the snow arrived. When I looked outside, there were beautiful fluffy white flakes of snow all over the grass and flowers. The roads were clear though. It was gorgeous. Bit by bit the snow has melted and the sun has been shining very beautifully today. All of the snow is virtually gone now, except for some shaded areas in our back garden. I will post a picture of what it looked like nestled on top of my almost open tulip. The snow was nestled just so on the tip of the slightly open tulip. It made me smile when I saw it. My mom was a keen gardener and I always tell Brit Boy that she would first laugh and then be proud that I seem to have a way with flowers. I always thought before that there was no way I had inherited her green thumb, but now I think possibly narrowly maybe. (smile) The jury is still out on that one. But I was so proud that the tulip bulbs that I planted in the dead of the cold English winter, have indeed come to life. I used to kill every plant I had before, but something has changed. I don’t know what. (shrug) Anyway, I smiled this morning when I saw the tulip with snow because it was like a wink from my mom. It was like “happy birthday mom…happy Sunday…and hey look at the snow in springtime” that I was sharing with my mom for that brief moment. So I think I have passed another tiny milestone in how I feel about my mother passing on. Deep down, I know that she is okay and I will be too. Happy Birthday Mom!
